Box Score 2 PIKESVILLE, Md. – The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams opened their 2022-2023 dual meet schedules on Friday evening at the Coppermine Pikesville Indoor Tennis Center, but St. Bonaventure University won both matches by scored of 5-2.
In the women's match, the Bonnies took the doubles point despite a 6-3 win by
Olivia Tracey and
Jocelyn Assael over Alexandria Jannson and Amelia Haley at No. 2. Anastasia Gubanova and Isabelle Venter posted a 6-3 victory for St. Bonaventure over
Jessica Bodewes and
Emi Shivkumar at No. 1. Kashish Bote and Kelly Barnes were then 6-2 winners against
Lauren Manwiller and
Liza Tankimovich at No. 3.
Manwiller bounced back at No. 2 singles for a 6-3, 6-4 win over Haley, and Assael won at No. 5, 6-2, 6-4, against Bote.
The Bonnies took the other four singles contests. Jannsson beat Tracey, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1, and Venter was a 6-3, 6-0, victor against Bodewes at No. 3. Gubanova downed
Christine Richiez, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4, and Barnes outlasted
Madison Metzdorf, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6.
St. Bonaventure won all three men's singles matches with Archie Graham and Rasmus Egehus winning, 6-2, over
George Cavo and
Nick Haggar at No. 1. Hugh Cochlin and Norka Sanchez edged
Matt Cardano and
Nick Lawliss, 7-5, at the two spot, and Connor Turner and Anargha Ganguly were 6-3 victors against
Oliver Davey and
Harry Zeiders.
Cardano picked up a win for the Greyhounds at No. 1 in singles play, getting past Egehus, 7-6, 6-4. Davey scored Loyola's second point with a 7-5, 6-3, decision against Cochlin in the No. 3 match.
Graham used a super-tiebreaker for a 6-4 (4), 6-3, (10-6) win over Cavo at No. 2., and Ganguly got past Zeiders, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4. Turner beat
Ryan Boland, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5, and Sanchez turned back
Dylan Koziol, 6-2, 7-6, in the six flight.
