LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Loyola University Maryland men's tennis team traveled to Liberty University this weekend for the 2023 ITA Atlantic Regional Championships where several Greyhounds played in singles and doubles brackets.
Nick Lawliss and
Nick Haggar won their round-of-32 doubles match, 8-3, over Bucknell's William Robinson and Ethan Esclamado to reach the round of 16. There, they fell, 8-4, to James Madison's Edson Sanchez and Francisco Sinopoli.
In singles, Lawliss lost, 6-1, 6-4, to Penn State's Nolan Ranger in the first round. Filippo Maragoni of Radford then downed him, 7-6 (3), 6-2 in the consolation round of 32.
Matt Cardano lost, 6-2, 7-5, to George Mason's Momin Khan in the first round of the singles draw before beating Howard's Kendrick Lash, 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the consolation round of 32.
Oliver Davey fell, 6-0, 6-1, to Delaware's Ids Waterbolk in the opening round and 6-4, 6-3, to Filpos Zachiotis of Mount St. Mary's in the consolation round of 32.
Cardano and
Ryan Boland lost their first doubles match, 8-3, to Villanova's Michael Founties and Thomas Wakefield, but they bounced back to win, 8-6, in the consolation bracket against Mount St. Mary's Marcel Cronin and Asarsh Gaonker.
Jorge Quintana and Davey played in doubles, losing 8-2, to James Madison's Aathreyn Mahesh and Esteve Argusti and 8-4 against Villanova's Josh Vestal and Eitan Khromchenko.
