WASHINGTON, D.C. –
Lauren Link had 10 kills for the Loyola University Maryland volleyball team, but the Greyhounds lost to host American University, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20 on Tuesday night in the Patriot League Quarterfinals.
The Eagles turned a 12-12 tie into a 15-12 lead with two kills and a block in the first set, and the lead built to 20-15 moments later.
American then took a 4-0 lead in the second and did not trail in the set.
Loyola scored six fo the first seven points in the third set to lead 6-1 on an
Ava Nepkin ace, but the Eagles battled back to tie at 16-16. Carle Fiske gave American its first lead of the third with a kill to make it 18-17, and the Eagles pulled away for the win.
Zeynep Uzen had 10 kills in the win for the Eagles.
In addition to Link's 10 kills,
Kacy Sekunda had seven kills and 12 digs.
Rose McDermott also had 12 digs in the match, while
Kennedy Stevens had a team-high four blocks.
