BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland guard
Deon Perry was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week Monday after he served up a career-high 28 points in the Greyhounds' 91-82 victory at Lehigh University Saturday night.
The freshman from Baltimore averaged 22.5 points while shooting 55.6 percent from 3-point range in a pair of games last week.
Perry started the week with a 17-point performance on Wednesday night at Army West Point, making 4 of 7 from 3-point range and 5 of 9 overall. He also had two steals and a pair of assists against the Black Knights.
On Saturday night, Perry keyed a comeback from 13-point down in the second half as the Greyhounds outscored Lehigh by 22 over the game's last 16-plus minutes to take a win on the floor of the second-place team in the Patriot League.
Perry finished with 28 points, eclipsing his career-high past the 22 he had scored earlier this year, making a season-best six 3-pointers in the process. He tallied 19 of his points in the second half after Lehigh went up 53-40 with 16:54 to play in regulation.
Perry, who also earned a Rookie of the Week honor in January, is the Greyhounds' leading scorer in Patriot League games, averaging 12.5 over the 13 conference contests to-date. He has shot 42.9 percent from 3-point range making 26 of 29 (.897) from the free-throw line in those games. He is also third in the conference in total steals (23) in League games. At 12.5 points per game, he is the No. 3 freshman in scoring average during conference outings.
Over Loyola's last six games, he has two 20-plus point efforts and is averaging 17.8 per game.
Perry and the Greyhounds return to the court on Wednesday, February 15, when they host Lafayette College in a 7 p.m. game in Reitz Arena.
