Perry Grabs Final Patriot League Player & Rookie of the Week Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Deon Perry finished the 2022-23 regular-season on a scoring tear, averaging 24.5 points in a couple of Loyola University Maryland wins, and on Monday he became the first player in conference history to earn Patriot League Men's Basketball Player & Rookie of the Week honors in the same week.
 
Perry helped Loyola to a pair of wins over Holy Cross and American, scoring 27 on Wednesday night against the Crusaders before putting up 22 in an overtime victory Saturday evening against the Eagles.
 
He shot 55 percent from 3-point range in the games, making 11 of 20, and he was 15 of 33 overall (45.5 percent) from the field.
 
In the second half, the Crusaders had made a run to close a halftime deficit, but Perry scored eight in a row for the Greyhounds, and Loyola went away for a 90-68 victory.
 
On Saturday, American led 51-43 with 13:29 to go in regulation, but Perry scored nine during an 11-3 Loyola run over the next three minutes. His three at 10:25 tied the game at 54-54.
 
The Player of the Week award it he first of Perry's career, and he finishes the season with three Rookie of the Week honors.
 
The Greyhounds open play in the Patriot League Championships on Tuesday, February 28, at 7 p.m. when they host Holy Cross in Reitz Arena.
