Detwiler Named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for Record-Tying 12th Time

Bethlehem, PA --  The Patriot League announced their Player of the Week awards on Monday afternoon, and Loyola Maryland's Katie Detwiler was named the defensive player of the week.

This is Katie Detwiler's 12th defensive player of the week honor in her career. This ties the most player of the week honors since Colgate's Hilary Meyer, who received defensive player of the week honors 12 times between 1996 and 1999.

Detwiler was a critical piece of the Greyhounds defense this past week, as she anchored the defense to allowing just 15 goals in two games. In the Greyhounds matchup against No. 2 Syracuse, they held the Orange to a season low nine goals and just one assist. Coming into the game, the Orange ranked third in the country in goals and first in the country in assists, and were held well below their averages. Detwiler was a critical piece of this, as the graduate student held the Orange's leader in points, Meaghan Tyrell, to a season-low two points on the day.

Detwiler followed it up with a stellar performance in their Patriot League opener against Lehigh, where she held Lehigh's Gabby Schneider to just two points in the game. She also added five draw controls in the win. Overall, Detwiler had eight draw controls, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls on the week.

The Greyhounds will continue Patriot League play on Saturday, as the Greyhounds will travel to face Boston at noon.
