Tennis Teams Sweep Coppin State

BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team took a 7-0 decision over visiting Coppin State University on Thursday afternoon, and the Greyhounds men earned a 4-3 victory against the Eagles at the McClure Tennis Center.
 
After Jorge Quintana and Gilberto Rivera-Gordillo won by default at No. 3 doubles, Matt Cardano and Oliver Dave picked up the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at No. 2. Coppin State's Luka Markovic and Vansh Kapoor were 7-5 winners against Nick Lawliss and Nick Haggar at No. 1.
 
Cardano beat Anas Haddou, 3-0 (retired) at No. 1 singles, and Trevor Girandola put the Greyhounds in front, 3-0, with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov at No. 5. Haggar's win by default at No. 6 proved the winning point for the Greyhounds.
 
Coppin State's Markovic topped Davey, 6-3, 6-0, (11-9) at No. 2, and Kapoor was a 7-5, 6-4 winner against Lawliss at No. 3, while Rishi Jalota edged Dylan Koziol, 6-4, 7-6 (2) at No. 4.
 
In the women's match, Olivia Tracey and Liza Tankimovich topped Megan Etienne and Emperess Johnson, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles, Lauren Manwiller and Evi Shivkumar beat Kenyange Kauonde and Mackenzie Jones, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles to clinch the early point. Hana ElSherif and Indy Ampaw were 6-4 winners against Madison Metzdorf and Taylor Kuncl.
 
Tracey took the No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-2, against ElSherif, and Katie Moorhead was a 7-6 (8) [retired] winner against Ampaw at No. 3.
 
Manwiller defeated Etienne, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, and Kuncl bested Jones, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4. Metzdorf downed Kaounde, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5, and Lauren Williamson got past Johnson, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6.
