BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team won all six singles matches and two of three doubles contests on Monday to sweep visiting Rider University, 7-0.
Matt Cardano and
Ryan Boland picked up victories in singles for the Loyola men, but the Broncs closed with a 5-2 win overall.
Olivia Tracey and
Liza Tankimovich opened No. 2 doubles with a 6-2 win against Avery Oppenheim and Sofia Gutierrez, but the Broncs came back with a win at No. 3 where Andrea Sydow and Raquel Bolin beat
Madison Metzdorf and
Taylor Kuncl, 6-3.
Lauren Manwiller and
Christine Richiez closed out the opening point for the Greyhounds, outlasting Agnese Ceccarelli and Daniela Naves, 7-5, for the win at No. 1.
Manwiller and Richiez won in straight sets at No. 1 and 2 singles with the former beating Naves, 7-5, 6-3, and the latter topping Sydow, 6-2, 6-0.
Tankimovich used a tiebreaker in the second set for a 6-5, 7-6 (2) victory versus Jett Coetzee.
Katie Moorhead was a straight-set winner against Gutierrez, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4, and Metzdorf used a super-tiebreaker third for a 4-6, 6-3, (10-7) win over Oppenheim at No. 5.
Lauren Williamson also won the third in a super-tiebreaker, downing Samantha Gutierrez, 6-4, 3-6, (10-6).
The Broncs' men swept the doubles point with three wins. Nathan Slattery and Dhruv Tangri beat
Nick Haggar and
Ryan Boland, 6-1, at No. 1, and Roger Martinez and Stavros Hadjvarnava topped
Oliver Davey and
Harry Zeiders, 6-2, at No. 2. Jake Grimes and Dylan Lachmanen were 6-2 winners against
George Cavo and
Matt Cardano in the third spot.
Cardano bounced back for a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against Slattery, and Boland took a 5-7. 6-3, (10-8) decision over Pablo Salar Carrera at No. 5.
Rider, however, won the other four singles matches. Tangri beat Davey, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2, and Martinez got past Cavo, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3. Hadjivarnava turned back
Dylan Koziol, 7-6 (5), 6-1 in the fourth match. Grimes was a 7-5, 6-3 winner against Zeiders at No. 6.
