Rezanka, Wyers Selected In PLL Draft

A pair of Loyola University Maryland defenders were selected in the 2023 Premier Lacrosse League College Entry Draft on Tuesday night as Payton Rezanka was selected by the Atlas, and Cam Wyers was picked up by the Archers.

The short-stick defensive midfielder was selected with the third pick in the third round with the 19th overall pick, and the close defender was the fourth pick of the fourth round.

The defenders' Loyola careers finished this weekend, and they will go down as one of the Greyhounds' best at positions where they have had outstanding players.

Rezanka played in 70 games for the Greyhounds, missing just one during his career, and finished with 73 caused turnovers, two shy of the school record for a shot-stick set from 2011-14 by fellow All-American Pat Laconi.

The native of San Diego earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American Second Team recognition following the 2022 season and has already picked up his first All-America honor of 2023 this week when he was name to the USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America First Team.

In his final year with the Greyhounds, Rezanka had 19 caused turnovers and he added a career-high nine points in transition with four goals and five assists.

Over the last year, Rezanka was part of the Team USA Training Team for the upcoming World Championships in his hometown. While he was a part of the final group, he was not named to the World Team roster.

Rezanka finished his time at Loyola with 18 total points on nine goals and nine assists. In addition to his 73 caused turnovers, he had 85 ground balls.

Wyers was a member of the same freshman class as Rezanka for the 2019 season, and he was as impactful of a player.

He started all 69 games that he played for the Greyhounds and started each of those contests at close defense.

The Canadian from Ottawa, Ontario, caused 79 turnovers during his Loyola career, finishing fifth all-time in the stats category. This year, he tied for the team-lead with 22, a career-best in the Greyhounds 17 games.

Wyers was a two-time USILA All-American, earning third-team recognition in 2021 and honorable mention last season.

He will be part of the Canadian National Team that travels to San Diego and competes in the 2023 World Championships.
