Sekunda Earns Patriot League Player of the Week Honor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland junior Kacy Sekunda was named the Patriot League Volleyball Player of the Week on Tuesday after earning All-Tournament honors at the Blue Hen Invitational over the weekend.

Sekunda, who plays as a setter and right-side hitter, posted the first triple-double by a Loyola player since 2015 when she had 11 kills, 24 assists and 11 digs in Saturday's victory over Robert Morris University.

Overall, in three matches, she had 32 kills (2.9 per set), 55 assists (5.0) and 26 digs (2.4) as the Greyhounds beat the Colonials and Niagara University after falling in four sets to host University of Delaware in the tournament opener.

Sekunda had a double-double in the first match against the Blue Hens, logging 12 kills and 16 assists, and she came back with nine kills and 15 assists against the Purple Eagles before her triple-double in the last game.

Her triple-double is the first for Loyola since Molly Werts had 10 kills, 31 assists and 15 digs in a four-west win over Manhattan on September 11, 2015, at the UMES Fall Fling. Last season, there were only 80 triple-doubles in all of NCAA Division I volleyball with two coming in the Patriot League.

The award is the second of Sekunda's career; she was named both Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week on September 21, 2021.

Loyola will be back in action with three games this weekend, starting with a Thursday evening date at Duke University starting at 6:30.
