DURHAM, N.C. – Loyola University Maryland volleyball won the second set at Duke University on Thursday night, but the Blue Devils came back to take the last two in a 25-15, 26-28, 25-13, 25-23 non-conference win at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Set Breakdown
- Set One
- Duke held the Greyhounds to just 10 kills in the opening set, while the Blue Devils had 12 with only two errors to hit .417.
- Set Two
- The Blue Devils went up 16-14 on a Rachel Richardson ace, but Riley Hamilton sided out for Loyola with a kill, and Loyola tied the score on a Blue Devils attack error.
- Another Hamilton kill later put the Greyhounds in front, 21-20, but Duke tied it a moment later with a Jess Robinson kill.
- Morgan Crawford took a Kacy Sekunda set and put away a kill to start a 3-0 Loyola run that would give the Greyhounds set point at 24-21.
- Duke, however, scored the next four and had its own set-point at 25-24, but a Caitlin Churney block and Crawford swung the lead back to Loyola.
- The Blue Devils tied it after a Loyola service error, but Kennedy Stevens put away a kills, and Hamilton followed suit to close the set for the Greyhounds and even the match.
- Set Three
- Duke responded in the third by hitting .324 and forcing Loyola to a -.032 mark to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
- Set Four
- Loyola had 14 kills in the set and got within a point on two late occasions – at 23-22 and 24-23 – but Duke held on to win the match.
