Former Loyola MLAX Star Spencer Signs NBA Contract, Per The Athletic

Pat Spencer, the all-time leading point scorer in Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse history has signed a two-way contract with the National Basketball Association's Golden State Warriors, per The Athletic's Anthony Slater and could join the seven-time NBA Champions immediately.
 
Spencer, who has played for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA's G League over the past two seasons where he has averaged 15.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game this season in 18 contests. He has shot 49.5 percent from the field and 43.1 percent from 3-point range for Santa Cruz.
 
Players signed to Two-Way Contracts are paid one salary for their time in both leagues. Only players with three or fewer years of NBA service are able to sign Two-Way Contracts, which can be for either one or two seasons, according to NBA.com.
 
Spencer graduated from Loyola with a Bachelor of Business Administration in May 2019 as the most decorated men's lacrosse player in school history.
 
In 2019, he was the school's first recipient of the Tewaaraton Award and the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Lt. Raymond J. Enners Most Outstanding Player.
 
Spencer finished his career as the NCAA Division I all-time leader in assists (231) and second in Division I in points (380). He set school and Patriot League records in both categories and was second all-time at Loyola in goals scored (149) at the time.
 
The Davidsonville, Maryland, native was the first player in Patriot League history to earn Offensive Player of the Year honors all four season, a four-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree and a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll recipient.
 
Spencer earned USILA and Inside Lacrosse All-America First Team honors for the third-straight year and became Loyola's first-ever four-time USILA All-American. In 2019, he was named Loyola's recipient of the John Mohler Award as the top senior student-athlete and set Loyola and Patriot League single-season records in assists (65) and points (114).
 
After graduating from Loyola, Spencer basketball played as a graduate student at Northwestern University and then has played professionally in Germany and the G League.
 
Should he make his NBA debut, Spencer would be the second current player in the league who matriculated at Loyola. Memphis Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama was a first-round pick in 2021 and is currently averaging 10.4 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Western Conference team this season. Additionally, the Warriors are slated to play the reigning NBA Champion Denver Nuggets on Sunday, February 25. The Nuggets are coached by 1994 Loyola graduate Michael Malone.
