COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Loyola University Maryland track and field opened its 2024 outdoor schedule on Saturday, competing at the Maryland Invitational.
Lauryn Clarke had the Greyhounds' top individual finish of the day, taking second in the 100 meters, and she was a part of Loyola's 4x100-meter relay that tied for first at the meet.
Clarke was the top collegiate finisher and second overall, finishing in 12.10 seconds, the third best time in school history.
Loyola's 4x100-meter relay team ran 48.48 seconds and finished in a dead heat with the quartet from Lafayette College as the timing computer had both teams at 48.472 seconds. The Greyhounds group –
Madelyn Ricard,
Julia Baguiao, Clarke and
Jane Mazzeo – clocked the seventh-fastest time in school history.
Mazzeo and Baguiao also finished in the top-10 in the 100, running 12.74 and 12.97, respectively to finish sixth and ninth overall. Ricard was close behind in 11
th (13.02), and
Onyinyechi Kenine was 23
rd in 14.29.
Isabella Coleman led the Greyhounds' middle-distance crew with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters, running 2:18.50. Kaitlyn Cassas was 17
th in the event in 2:38.32.
Sammie Spargo paced three Loyola runners in the 3,000 meters with a top-five finish, taking fourth in 10:49.24.
Kasey Boag was sixth (11:10.48), and
Maddie Hyde finished eighth (11:53.17).
Leanely Cruz had a fifth-place finish for the Greyhounds in the 100-meter hurdles, running 16.10 seconds.
Norah Affanato finished seventh in the 1,500 meters, running 5:03.54, while
Kiera Udell was 11
th in 5:09.48.
Baguiao finished 12
th in the 200 meters (27.35), followed by
Chelsea Ayitey-Adjin (17
th, 28.55) and Kenine (22
nd, 29.91).
Meghan Leonard was 12
th in the 400 meters with a time of 62.18, while
Claire Dalsass was 15
th (63.76).
Elizabeth Gallagher (17
th, 64.37),
Lauren Gerow (18
th, 64.82) and
Ajia Morrison (20
th, 66.56) also ran the event.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Leonard, Dalsass, Cruz and Udell was fourth in 4:23.76.
Several members of the men's cross country team ran at the meet with Camden Spring's third-place finish (8:54.05) in the 3,000 meters leading the way. Ailin Oberlies took eighth in the event (9:21.26), and Matthew Bradley was 12
th (9:51.51).
Billy Malone was eighth in the 800 meters for the men, running 1:59.32, while Evan Skurat was 16
th in 2:08.27. Dennis McNamara took 10
th in the 1,500 meters (4:13.32), and Bryan Hickman was 16
th (4:17.89).
