EASTON, Pa. – The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams left the Lehigh Valley on Sunday with a sweep of Lafayette College as the women's team took a 4-1 win, and the men were 4-3 winners over the Leopards.
The men came back from a deficit in the match to claim the victory.
Lafayette opened with the doubles win as Arman Ganchi and Nick McKenzie topped
Nick Haggar and
Oliver Davey, 6-4, at No. 1, and Jake Magnusson teamed with William Wooley for a 6-2 victory over
Nick Lawliss and
George Cavo at No. 2.
Haggar put the Greyhounds on the board with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Magnusson at No. 2 singles, and
Matt Cardano gave the Greyhounds their first lead by topping Ganchi, 7-6 (0), 7-5, at No. 1.
McKenzie, however, evened the match at 2-2 with a 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3 win against Davey at No. 3. Cavo swung the advantage back to Loyola, knocking off Sam Gelber, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5. Lafayette's Derrin Lerner extended the match with a three-set win over Lawliss at No. 4, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (6).
Ryan Boland then clinched the victory with a three-set, extra-point win at No. 6 where he beat Wooley, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
In the women's match, Loyola took the lead early in doubles where
Christine Richiez and
Lauren Manwiller were 6-4 winners over Olivia Boeckman and Ally Bauer at No. 1, and
Olivia Tracey and
Liza Tankimovich eclipsed Hanna Gahcni and Carmen Merkel, 6-1, at No. 2.
Alyssa Perdomo brought the Leopards level with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Tracey at No. 1, but Richiez put Loyola in front for good, beating Hanna Ganchi, 7-6 (1), 6-2.
Tankimovich used a third set to beat Merkel, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, at No. 3, and
Emi Shivkumar finished the match with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Bauer at No. 5.
