BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland golf team will head to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the University Club to play in the NCAA Regional Championship later this month after winning the 2024 Patriot League Championships.
The Greyhounds learned of their NCAA destination on Wednesday during the Selection Show on The Golf Channel.
Loyola won its sixth Patriot League title and 23
rd conference championship since 1990 when it pulled away for a 13-stroke victory at Saucon Valley Country Club. The title is the Greyhounds' third in four years.
Loyola will make its 12
th all-time appearance in the NCAA Regionals when it starts the three-day, 54-hole on Monday, May 13-15.
Carlo Pizzano became the third Loyola player to win a Patriot League individual title, shooting 2-over 218 to claim the top spot in the conference tournament.
James Rico tied for second, while
Gustavo Rangel (T-13
th) and
Mike Crowley (T-17
th) also had top-10 finishes.
Pizzano was named the Patriot League Player of the Year, and Head Coach
Chris Baloga earned Coach of the Year recognition for the fifth time since the Greyhounds joined the conference in 2013-14.
The Greyhounds won a pair of tournaments this season, including the Patriot League Championships and the Ross Collegiate Classic in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Pizzano leads the team with a 72.13 stroke average, just in front of Rico (72.42), Roman (72.45) and Crowley (73.03).
