ANNAPOLIS, Md. –
Gustavo Rangel had a bogey-free back-nine on Sunday, rolling in two birdie putts to capture his first individual as a collegiate golfer.
His final-round 2-under 69 also helped Loyola University Maryland shoot the day's low round of 1-under 283 to take second place at The Goat.
Rangel entered the day in a tie for fifth place after rounds of 68 and 73 Saturday on the 7,025-yard, par-71 Naval Academy Golf Club.
He birdied the par-5 fourth hole but gave the shot back with a bogey on the fifth at the beginning of his final round Sunday. He came back to birdie the par-4 sixth hole, but again the score went back the wrong direction with a bogey on the par-3 seventh.
Rangel turned to the back nine at even par for the day and 1-under for the tournament, and he parred the 10
th and 11
th holes before circling a three on the par-4 12
th hole to drop to 2-under overall. That birdie moved him into a share of the lead for the first time.
He stayed in that spot with two more pars on the 13
th and 14
th holes before a birdie on the par-4 15
th hole gave him sole possession of first.
Rangel carded pars on the next two holes and then drained a putt just over three feet for par on the 18
th green to take a one-shot victory over Navy's Jack Tarzy who had moved into contention with a 5-under 31 on the back nine.
Loyola finished second for the second time in as many tournaments this fall after it also took a runner-up finish at the Howard/USF Intercollegiate less than two weeks ago.

Jackson Roman took his second top-10 finish in as many tournaments this year, shooting an even-par 71 on Sunday to finish tied for ninth at 1-over.
