WASHINGTON, D.C. – Loyola University Maryland men's tennis swept the three doubles matches on Friday afternoon in their first dual match of the 2024-2025 season, but Howard came back to win five of six singles contests and take a 5-2 decision against the Greyhounds at the WTEF East Capitol Campus.
Nick Lawliss and
Noah Castillo opened doubles play with a 6-2 win over Michael Major Jr. and Kendrick Lash at No. 1, and then
Ryan Gill and
George Cavo paired at No. 2 to defeat Marcel Dawson and Kaosie Nwokedi, 6-4.
Cristian Pemueller and
Ryan Boland scored a default win at No. 3 doubles against Howard's Hassimiyou Dieng and Mitchell Yon.
Gill scored the singles victory for the Greyhounds at No. 5, beating Dieng, 6-1, 6-1.
Major was a 6-3, 6-4 winner against Lawliss at No. 1, and Dawson got past Castillo, 6-3, 7-6 (5) at No. 2.
Lash defeated Cavo, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, and Nwokedi beat Boland, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4.
Blake Edwards won the first set against Yon on the No. 6 singles line, but the Bison player came back for a 4-6, 6-4, (10-6) victory in a super-tiebreaker.
