Back At Home For The Next Three
- Loyola University Maryland volleyball opens a three-match homestand on Saturday, October 18, when it hosts a 4 o'clock contest against Army West Point.
- The Greyhounds have just a single game this weekend before hosting two in the following week against Bucknell and Lafayette.
- All Loyola home matches are slated to stream live on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
- The Greyhounds wrapped up a four-match road trip last weekend with games on the road at Lehigh and Army West Point. The Mountain Hawks took a three-set decision on Friday night before the Black Knights earned a win in four Saturday afternoon.
- Lehigh hit .373 in the Friday night match and held Loyola to 21 kills. Kacy Sekunda and Ava Nepkin both had seven in the outing.
- The Greyhounds took the second set Saturday against the Black Knights, but Army West Point rallied to win the final two.
- Sekunda had her fifth triple-double of the season in the match with team-highs of 13 kills, 15 assists and 17 digs. Addie Huber added 17 digs, and Riley Hamilton had 12 for the Greyhounds.
Freshman Digging The Playing Time
- Addie Huber has been the Greyhounds' primary libero this season and is averaging 4.38 digs per set through 17 matches. She has 20 or more digs in four of the last nine Greyhounds matches and 12 or more in 12 of 14. Overall, she has seven matches this season with 20 or more digs.
- Huber ranks second in the Patriot League in digs (285) and third in digs per set (4.38), and she is 60th and 52nd nationally in those categories. Among NCAA Division I freshmen, Huber is seventh in digs per set and total digs.
Digs Staying With The Trend
- Loyola ranks 60th in NCAA Division I in digs per set (15.26) through matches of October 15 continuing a trend from the last several years.
- The Greyhounds have ranked 92nd or higher nationally in the statistical categories in the last seven seasons (2018-24) with five of those seasons finishing in the top 30.
Back For A Graduate Year
- Kacy Sekunda returns to the Greyhounds' lineup for the 2025 season as a graduate student after earning her bachelor's degree in. She missed all but nine matches during her sophomore season (2022) and received a medical hardship waiver to compete this year.
- Sekunda finished fifth in NCAA Division I last season with nine triple doubles, and she had her first of the 2025 season on September 5 against Robert Morris before picking up a second against Georgetown. She posted three in the first three Patriot League matches of the year and then had one October 10 against Army West Point to bring her career total to 19. That ranks second-most amongst active NCAA players (Jalyn Stout, Coastal Carolina, 42).
- The setter-right side from Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, who earned All-Patriot League Second Team recognition along with Academic All-Patriot League honors last year, leads the Greyhounds with 3.09 kills per set as of October 15.
- Over the course of 353 sets in 97 career matches, Sekunda has 683 kills, 2,192 assists and 922 digs. She ranks eighth in Loyola career history in assists and enters the Lehigh match 207 back of Aubrey Kirvin (2009-10) for seventh.
The Data Science Of Volleyball
- The Greyhounds have another graduate student on their roster this season, but Riley Hamilton is in only her fourth year of college. The Colgate, Wisconsin, native graduated from Loyola in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in data science, at the same time beginning her master's in the same field.
- Hamilton was one of seven recipients of Loyola's Whelan Medal at the May 2025 Commencement, an honor given to the graduating students with the highest grade-point average. Hamilton, who graduated with a perfect 4.0, also received Loyola's honor as the female student-athlete with the highest GPA.
- Hamilton matched her career-high with 16 kills on September 27 against Navy, a total she also put up September 8, 2023, versus Stony Brook.
- In three-plus years with Loyola, she has played in 80 matches and 246 sets to average 1.35 kills per set. Last year, she had a career-high 116 kills and 160 digs, and this year, she is fourth on the team with 1.77 kills and tied for second with 2.66 digs per set.
Swinging Away
- Morgan Crawford and Ava Nepkin are tied for second on the Greyhounds in kills per set, both averaging 1.98 across their timeon the floor. Four Greyhounds – including Crawford, Nepkin, Riley Hamilton and Kacy Sekunda – have more than 100 kills this year with Crawford and Nepkin entering the Army West Point match with 129 and 103, respectively.
