Back On The Road

  • The Loyola University Maryland volleyball team goes back on the road this weekend for a pair of games as the start of a four-match swing away from the Evergreen campus.
  • Loyola first heads to Hamilton, New York, for a Saturday, October 31, game at 5 p.m. against Colgate University. The next day, the Greyhounds play their first game in November in Worcester, Massachusetts, with a 5 o'clock match against College of the Holy Cross.
  • Both matches are slated to stream live on ESPN+.

Last Time Out

  • Loyola lost the first set in both of its Patriot League matches last weekend against Bucknell and Lafayette, but the Greyhounds rallied to win the contests, taking the Bison down in five and the Leopards in four.
  • Ava Nepkin led the Loyola offense in the two matches, taking 103 swings and converting for 37 kills with just 12 errors (.243). She had 19 kills Friday night against Bucknell and 18 the next afternoon.
  • Mariah Sanabia hit .450 with just one error in 19 kills on 40 swings, and she also led Loyola with 1.22 blocks per set (11 total).

Back-to-Back Big Games

  • Ava Nepkin put together two of the better games of her career last weekend, combining for 37 kills, an average of 4.11 per set. The junior outside hitter came into the match with a season-high of 11 against both Fairleigh Dickinson and Georgetown, and she had only three other matches in 2025 with 10 or more kills.
  • She eclipsed that, as well as her career-best of 17 kills (2024 against Old Dominion) in both matches with 19 coming against the Bison, 18 versus the Leopards.
  • Nepkin did it defensively, too, with nine total blocks in as many sets and 22 digs (2.33).

Winning Formulas

  • Loyola may have solidified a roadmap to better results last weekend on the statistical side of the game. Balanced offense was a key in both victories, something that rings true in Loyola wins this year.
  • In the Greyhounds' six victories, three players are averaging 2.1 or more kills per set (Kacy Sekunda, 2.88; Ava Nepkin, 2.65; Addie Lowe, 2.16), and six are at 1.75 or better.
  • Those numbers drop in losses when only one player is above 2.1 kills per set (Sekunda, 3.22), and four are higher than 1.75.

Freshman Digging The Playing Time

  • Addie Huber has been the Greyhounds' primary libero this season and is averaging 4.37 digs per set through 20 matches. She has 20 or more digs in five of the last 12 Greyhounds matches and 12 or more in 15 of 17. Overall, she has eight matches this season with 20 or more digs.
  • Huber ranks second in the Patriot League in digs (341) and third in digs per set (4.37), and she is 78th and 57th nationally in those categories. Among NCAA Division I freshmen, Huber is seventh in digs per set and total digs.

Digs Staying With The Trend

  • Loyola ranks 75th in NCAA Division I in digs per set (15.08) through matches of October 28 continuing a trend from the last several years.
  • The Greyhounds have ranked 92nd or higher nationally in the statistical categories in the last seven seasons (2018-24) with five of those seasons finishing in the top 30.

Back For A Graduate Year

  • Kacy Sekunda returns to the Greyhounds' lineup for the 2025 season as a graduate student after earning her bachelor's degree in. She missed all but nine matches during her sophomore season (2022) and received a medical hardship waiver to compete this year.
  • Sekunda finished fifth in NCAA Division I last season with nine triple doubles, and she had her first of the 2025 season on September 5 against Robert Morris before picking up a second against Georgetown. She posted three in the first three Patriot League matches of the year and then had one October 10 against Army West Point to bring her career total to 19. That ranks second-most amongst active NCAA players (Jalyn Stout, Coastal Carolina, 43).
  • The setter-right side from Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, who earned All-Patriot League Second Team recognition along with Academic All-Patriot League honors last year, leads the Greyhounds with 3.10 kills per set as of October 28.
  • Over the course of 366 sets in 100 career matches, Sekunda has 724 kills, 2,216 assists and 938 digs; she ranks eighth in Loyola career history in assists.

Up Next

  • Loyola wraps up its regular-season road schedule with a pair of relatively close matches next weekend.
  • The Greyhounds will play at American University on Friday, November 7, at 6 p.m. before heading to Annapolis, Maryland, for a match at Navy the next afternoon at 2 o'clock.
