BETHLEHEM, Pa. –
Jacob Theodosiou was named the Patriot League Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 24.0 points for Loyola University Maryland in two games this weekend at the Mahoney Classic presented by Nivea Men.
Theodosiou scored 21 points in Saturday's win over Stonehill and then had 27 in a three-point loss to host Fairfield on Sunday afternoon.
The junior guard from Waterloo, Ontario, also averaged 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.0 steals in the pair of games.
Theodosiou poured in 17 points in the second half of Saturday's game against Stonehill, propelled by four steals on the defensive end.
In one 31-second stretch early in the second half, Theodosiou had three steals in the halfcourt against Stonehill, taking each to the rim for layups to break a tie and put Loyola in front for good. He finished the game with a career-best five steals.
He came back 24 hours later to finish five off his career-best with 27 points against the host Stags. He made 10 of 15 shots, 7 of 8 after halftime, and knocked down all seven of his free-throw attempts. Theodosiou also had three steals and dished out a career-best six assists.
Through five games this year, he is second in the Patriot League in scoring, averaging 16.4 points per game, and he is tops in the conference with 13 total steals.
Loyola will be on the road for its next two, starting with a Wednesday night game at Duquesne and following with a Friday night contest at No. 8 Kentucky.
