PITTSBURGH – Five Loyola University Maryland men's basketball players scored 10 or more points on Wednesday night, but host Duquesne built a 16-point lead in the game's first eight minutes and despite several Greyhounds runs, the Dukes took a 92-76 non-conference victory at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
Jacob Theodosiou led the Greyhounds (2-4 overall) with 21 points, his third-straight game with 20 or more points.
Braeden Speed,
Jordan Stiemke and
Emmett Adair all had 11, and Jonas Sirutautas added 10. Adair's 11 came on 4 of 7 from the floor and 3 of 5 from 3-point range in his collegiate debut.
A 15-2 Dukes run made it 19-4 less than five minutes in, and a Cam Crawford basket in the paint pushed the Duquesne (4-1) advantage to 16, 24-8, with 13:20 on the first-half clock.
Loyola was then down 14 with 7:46 to go before Adair scored the next five points and
Tyson Commander knocked down a corner three at 6:14 to make it a six-point game, 34-28.
Later in the half, a Stiemke three and a Commander floater in the lane got the game within six again, but Duquesne pushed ahead for a 47-36 halftime lead.
Loyola shot 48.3 percent from the field, but the Dukes finished at 55.2 percent.
The Greyhounds will be back in action on Friday, November 21, when it faces No. 8 Kentucky in Rupp Arena.
