Women's Hoops Uses 42-8 Run to Out Pace Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Loyola University Maryland used a dominant second half and a pair of standout performances from Lex Therien and Koi Sims to pull away from Yale for a 73–48 victory on Sunday afternoon at John J. Lee Amphitheater.

Therien powered the Greyhounds (1–6) with 20 points and 11 rebounds, as she recorded her Division I leading 50th career double-double.

Sims added 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting as Loyola outscored Yale 47–21 after halftime. The Greyhounds shot 51 percent from the field and buried 5 of 10 from three, delivering their most efficient offensive performance of the season.

Trailing 27–26 at the break, Loyola seized control with a 24-point third quarter fueled by their defense. The Greyhounds opened the half on a 16–2 run, turning Yale turnovers into easy baskets and flipping the game's momentum. Sims knocked down a key corner three early in the period, then followed it with a put-back to ignite Loyola's surge. Therien added nine points in the quarter, including a late three that pushed the lead to 15.

Kimmie Hicks played a pivotal all-around game with 13 points and nine rebounds, helping Loyola dominate the glass 38–29. Sydney Bass provided a spark off the bench, scoring eight points and hitting two threes.

Yale (0–6) was held to 30 percent shooting. Luisa Vydrova led the Bulldogs with eight points and five assists, while Marisa Chapman and Magdalena Schmidt each added nine. After a competitive first half, Yale managed just eight points in the third quarter and never recovered.

Loyola closed the afternoon by shooting 71 percent in the fourth quarter, continuing to attack inside while holding Yale to one field goal over the opening four minutes. Therien's hook shot with 7:42 remaining pushed the lead to 23, and the Greyhounds cruised from there.

Loyola will return home to Reitz Arena on Wednesday, as they will host Delaware for a pre-thanksgiving matchup.
