Men’s Basketball Cruises To Pre-Thanksgiving Win

BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men's basketball topped 100 points for the first time since 2016, pulled down a school-record 61 rebounds and outscored visiting Washington College by 32 in the second half, going on to an 101-51 non-conference victory on Tuesday night.

Five Greyhounds (3-5 overall) scored in double figures, led by Jacob Theodosiou's 20 points on 8 of 10 from the field.

Troy Cicero Jr. added a career-high 14, making four 3-pointers, while Jonas Sirtautas added 11. Emmett Adair and Jordan Stiemke each had 10 points for Loyola.

Garrett Brennan set a new career-best with 11 rebounds to lead all players, and Carter Berg-McLean pulled down eight. Both players also had four assists, three back of Theodosiou's team-high seven.

Loyola led 12-0 less than five minutes into the game, a lead that Sam Springer expanded to 13, 22-9, with a three at 10:28. Springer's three was the last field goal for the Greyhounds until he hit another with 4:20 to go in the first half. During that span, the Shoremen (6-0 in NCAA Division III) pulled within six, but the Greyhounds kept them at bay with free throws, and Springer's second three made it a 31-19 lead.

Theodosiou would knock down a three on the next Loyola possession, and he hit another with 51 ticks to go in the half to make it a 20-point Greyhounds' lead.

In the second half, Loyola was up 20 after a Ben Costello basket for the Shoremen at 17:17; the Greyhounds then scored 16 in a row and led 68-32 on a Cicero three.

Loyola shot a season-best 57.6 percent from the field and held Washington College to 25.8 percent overall.

The Greyhounds will be back in Reitz Arena on Sunday, November 30, for a 6 o'clock game against Coppin State.
