Final Road Trip of the Regular Season
- Loyola University Maryland volleyball makes its final road trip of the 2025 regular season to the its two closest conference opponents this weekend.
- The Greyhounds head to Washington, D.C., on Friday, November 7, for a 6 p.m. match at American University before taking on the Navy Midshipmen Saturday, November 8, at 2 o'clock in Annapolis, Maryland.
- Both matches are slated to stream live on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
- The Greyhounds lost in a pair of road matches last weekend, dropping a three-set match at Colgate before falling in four to Holy Cross.
- Ava Nepkin had 13 kills and hit .370 in the first match of the weekend against the Raiders. Kacy Sekunda led the Greyhounds with 12 kills on Saturday against the Crusaders while Nekpin and Morgan Crawford both had nine.
Stepping Up Her Swing
- Ava Nepkin 112 kills, an average of 2.07 per set, through the season's first 18 matches, but over the last four, she has become a much more productive hitter.
- The junior outside hitter has averaged 3.25 kills per set during that span with 52 kills in the four matches to raise her season kills per set mark to 2.34.
- Ava Nepkin put together two of the better games of her career in a weekend sweep of Bucknell and Lafayette, combining for 37 kills, an average of 4.11 per set. The junior outside hitter came into the match with a season-high of 11 against both Fairleigh Dickinson and Georgetown, and she had only three other matches in 2025 with 10 or more kills.
- She eclipsed that, as well as her career-best of 17 kills (2024 against Old Dominion) in both matches with 19 coming against the Bison, 18 versus the Leopards. Nepkin did it defensively, too, with nine total blocks in as many sets and 22 digs (2.33).
- Last weekend, she has 22 kills in two matches at Colgate and Holy Cross.
Winning Formulas
- Loyola may have solidified a roadmap to better results against Bucknell and Lafayette on the statistical side of the game. Balanced offense was a key in both victories, something that rings true in Loyola wins this year.
- In the Greyhounds' six victories, three players are averaging 2.1 or more kills per set (Kacy Sekunda, 2.88; Ava Nepkin, 2.65; Addie Lowe, 2.16), and six are at 1.75 or better.
- Those numbers drop in losses when only one player is above 2.1 kills per set (Sekunda, 3.22), and four are higher than 1.75.
Freshman Digging The Playing Time
- Addie Huber has been the Greyhounds' primary libero this season and is averaging 4.36 digs per set through 22 matches. She has 20 or more digs in six of the last 14 Greyhounds matches and 12 or more in 16 of 19. Overall, she has nine matches this season with 20 or more digs.
- Huber ranks second in the Patriot League in digs (371) and third in digs per set (4.36), and she is 82nd and 57th nationally in those categories. Among NCAA Division I freshmen, Huber is seventh in digs per set and total digs.
Digs Staying With The Trend
- Loyola ranks 87th in NCAA Division I in digs per set (14.95) through matches of October 28 continuing a trend from the last several years.
- The Greyhounds have ranked 92nd or higher nationally in the statistical categories in the last seven seasons (2018-24) with five of those seasons finishing in the top 30.
Back For A Graduate Year
- Kacy Sekunda returns to the Greyhounds' lineup for the 2025 season as a graduate student after earning her bachelor's degree in. She missed all but nine matches during her sophomore season (2022) and received a medical hardship waiver to compete this year.
- Sekunda finished fifth in NCAA Division I last season with nine triple doubles, and she had her first of the 2025 season on September 5 against Robert Morris before picking up a second against Georgetown. She posted three in the first three Patriot League matches of the year and then had one October 10 against Army West Point to bring her career total to 19. That ranks second-most amongst active NCAA players (Jalyn Stout, Coastal Carolina, 44).
- The setter-right side from Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, who earned All-Patriot League Second Team recognition along with Academic All-Patriot League honors last year, leads the Greyhounds with 3.07 kills per set as of November 6.
- Over the course of 373 sets in 102 career matches, Sekunda has 743 kills, 2,226 assists and 944 digs; she ranks eighth in Loyola career history in assists.
Up Next
- Loyola wraps up its regular-season on Saturday, November 15, with a 4 p.m. home match against Lehigh.
