West Point -- Laura Salmeron led the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team with 18 points on the night, but a second quarter run paced Army West Point past the visiting Greyhounds, 64-53, on Wednesday evening.
Salmeron finished with 18 points on the night to go along with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a career-best 6 steals.
Koi Sims finished with 8 points and 9 rebounds, while
Avery Simmons added 8 points.
After a slow start to the second quarter, the Black Knights (17-5 overall, 9-3 Patriot League) found their stride, as they used a 14-6 run over four minutes in the second quarter to jump out to a 30-19 lead with 3:30 remaining in the first half.
After a
Marta Espinal hook shot cut the Greyhounds (8-15 overall, 2-10 Patriot League) deficit down to single-digits, Army used a 9-2 run to close out the first half to go into halftime with a 39-23 lead.
In the third quarter, both teams traded baskets throughout the quarter, as a
Kailey Kalet three late in the third quarter cut the deficit to 16-points with one minute remaining in the quarter, but Army hit a shot right before the end of the quarter to head into the fourth quarter with a 54-36 lead.
Late in the fourth quarter, Loyola used a 8-1 run to cut into the Army lead, but could not get it to single digits, as the Black Knights held on for the 64-53 win.
Fiona Hastick led the Black Knights with 19 points, while Trinity Hardy had 15 points and Camryn Tade had 14 points.
Loyola remains on the road this weekend, as they travel to face American on Saturday afternoon.
