Washington, D.C -- Laura Salmeron tied a career-high with five made three-pointers on Saturday afternoon, as the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team lead over the last three quarters, as they picked up the road win over American University, 68-39.
To start the second quarter, both teams scored on their first possessions, as Loyola led 17-13. Laura Salmeron then hit a three-pointer on back-to-back possessions, as she kick-started a 16-3 run for the Greyhounds (9-15 overall, 3-10 Patriot League). During the run Salmeron scored nine points, as Loyola shot 6-7 from the floor, including 3-3 from three-point range.
Loyola ended the second half on a 7-0 run, as
Meliah Van-Otoo hit a step-back three-pointer to beat the first half buzzer, as the Greyhounds took a 37-18 halftime lead.
Loyola continued their momentum in the third quarter, as
Koi Sims scored on back-to-back possessions halfway through the third quarter, as Loyola took a 50-26 lead over American with 5:13 remaining.
Lily Bottomley closed out a strong third quarter, as she grabbed a offensive rebound and scored on the put back to give the Greyhounds the 61-32 lead over the Eagles (1-23 overall, 1-12 Patriot League). Loyola would hold onto the lead, as they picked up the big road win, 68-39.
Salmeron finished with 19 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds on the day, while
Koi Sims recorded her eighth double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Meliah Van-Otoo added 13 points and 4 assists off the bench for the Greyhounds.
Loyola returns to Reitz Arena on Wednesday evening, as they will host Boston at 7:00 PM.
