DORADO, P.R. –
Gustavo Rangel shot a team-leading 2-under 70 on Tuesday to lead the Loyola University Maryland golf team to a tie for fifth at the Dorado Beach Collegiate on his native island.
Rangel, who hails from Puerto Rico, had an eagle on the 510-yard, par-5 ninth hole Tuesday, one of four eagles the Greyhounds had at TPC Dorado Beach's Sugarcane Course this week.
He finished the tournament ied for 13
th, moving up four spots on the final day. Rangel, who will play in the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open next month on a sponsor's exemption, finished the tournament at 5-under.
Dustin Stocksdale led all players in par-five scoring this week, playing the four holes at a full stroke under par in the three rounds. He was responsible for the team's other three eagles during the week and finished 17
th at 3-under for the tournament after an even-par 72 on Tuesday. The finish was the best of his collegiate career.
Mike Crowley also shot even-par 72 on Tuesday and tied for 28
th with teammate
Jackson Roman at 1-under overall.
Eli Spaulding tied for 65
th, and
Matt Carpentier played as an individual for Loyola and tied for 93
rd.
The Greyhounds' finish was their sixth top five finish of the season. Loyola has finished in the top seven of all seven tournaments it has competed in during the 2024-2025 campaign.
Loyola will be back in action March 10-11 when it heads to Southern Pines, North Carolina, for the Donald Ross Collegiate at Mid-Pines Inn & Golf Club.
