BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh University scored the first four goals of Saturday's Patriot League game against visiting Loyola University Maryland, and the Mountain Hawks held off the Greyhounds for a 7-3 victory at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
The Mountain Hawks got two goals from Andrew Kelly and another from Luke McAuliffe in the game's first eight minutes, and they led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Kelly added his game-high third of the day five minutes, 56 seconds into the second.
Henry Haberman broke through for the Greyhounds less than two minutes later when he dodged from the top, left side, rolled on his defender and got free. He stayed out of the crease and scored in tight at 7:21 to make it a 4-1 game, a score that the teams would carry into halftime.
Loyola caused a turnover on the first faceoff of the second half, and Haberman got his second of the day with a
Mason Cook feed 56 seconds into the third quarter. Lehigh, however, went back up by three, 5-2, on a Luke Winkler goal at 5:19 in the third.
Brady Quinn brought the Greyhounds back within a pair 4:44 into the fourth quarter, dodging from 'X' and turning to score from inside of three yards of the crease. Winkler and Jack Archer, however, added Mountain Hawks goals at 7:21 and 4:34 for the final margin.
Max Watkinson made 13 saves in goal for the Greyhounds.
Remi Reynolds and
Brady Rogoff both had two caused turnovers.
Loyola stays on the road for its next game, a conference contest on Saturday, April 5, at Bucknell University.
