ORLANDO –
Blake Edwards posted a three-set singles victory to earn the Loyola University Maryland men's tennis team a point on Wednesday, but the Greyhounds lost, 5-1, to North Carolina A&T.
Edwards outlasted Said Akbarov in a protracted super-tiebreaker after the two split the first two sets, 7-5, 3-6. The super-tiebreaker took three extra points, but Edwards edged Akbarov, 13-11 in the frame for the singles win on the No. 5 line.
North Carolina A&T's Ian Pedersen got by
Noah Castillo, 7-6 (1), 6-3, at No. 1 singles, and Lucas Coupu-Moison was a 6-1, 6-1 winner against
George Cavo at No. 2.
Kaua Santos topped Loyola's
Ryan Boland, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 3 flight, and Jindrich Brill beat
Ryan Gill, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4. Mathieu Dussaubat earned the Aggies' fifth point with a 6-4, 6-1 win over
Dylan Koziol.
Doubles were not played in the match because of weather conditions.
