LEWISBURG, Pa. — Loyola University Maryland picked up the doubles point and two singles victories, but it wasn't enough to hold off Boston University, which claimed a 4-3 win Thursday in the first round of the Patriot League Men's Tennis Championships.
The Greyhounds started strong, securing the doubles point behind a 6-4 win by Noah Castillo and Cristain Pemuller at No. 1 and a forfeit win at No. 3 by Ryan Boland and Jorge Quintana. George Cavo and Nick Lawliss held a 6-5 lead at No. 2 before the point was clinched.
Pemuller added a singles win for Loyola at No. 5, defeating Jaydon Barki 6-2, 6-3, while Boland also picked up a point at No. 6 with a forfeit. However, BU responded by winning four consecutive singles matches to take the overall match.
Gabe Brown topped Castillo 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Cole Knutsen edged Cavo 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2. Jonah Dickson downed Blake Edwards 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, and Ege Topkoc clinched the match for the Terriers with a three-set win over Lawliss, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, at No. 4.
