ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The U.S. Naval Academy's men's tennis team won a pair of doubles matches and then took three singles contests to defeat visiting Loyola University Maryland, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
Herrick Legaspi and Charlie Spencer paired for a 6-0 victory against
Noah Castillo and
Cristian Pemueller at No. 1 doubles, and Graydon Buckingham and JJ Etterbeek were 6-0 winners against
Jorge Quintana and
Gilberto Rivera-Gordillo at No. 3.
Loyola's
George Cavo and
Nick Lawliss were up, 4-1 on Navy's Aaron Gu and Steve Nguyen when the match was unfinished.
Legaspi topped Castillo, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, and Buckingham got past
Trevor Girandola, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6. Nguyen clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Pemueller at No. 5.
Etterbeek led Cavo, 6-0, 3-2, at No. 2, and Tommy Kim was up, 6-1, 3-2, at No. 4 against Lawliss when the match was halted.
Blake Edwards was in front, 6-2, 3-1, for Loyola against Spencer.
