BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland junior
Max Watkinson earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team for men's lacrosse on Thursday, a nod to his play on the field and work in the classroom.
Watkinson stepped into the starting goalie role this year and had some of the best shot-stopping numbers in the nation.
He ranks sixth in the nation in saves per game (13.5) after finishing the year with 189 total. Watkinson, who played all by 51 minutes in goal this season, ranked third in the Patriot League with a .551 saves percentage.
The Baltimore-area native had 10 or more saves in every game this season and recorded 13-plus in eight of the Greyhounds' 14 contests. He had three games with 17 or more stops.
In the classroom, Watkinson has been a Dean's List student and earned Patriot League Academic Honor Roll recognition in each of the last two seasons as a digital media major.
