DURHAM, N.C. – Loyola University Maryland freshman
Liam Moloney made his collegiate debut on Friday and shot a back-nine 33 to finish the day at even par, leading the Greyhounds in the first round of the Rod Myers Invitational and John H. Ryan Memorial
Moloney put up only pars and red numbers in the final nine holes with three birdies and six pars to get to even par and shoot an opening-round 72 at the 7,154-yard Duke University Golf Club.
He made had three bogeys in a row starting on the sixth hole, making the turn at 3-over for the day, but he birdied the 11
th, 13
th and 15
th holes before three-straight pars finished his round. Through 18 holes, Moloney is tied for 13
th place individually.
Loyola is seventh as a team after the first of three days at 8-over par. Duke leads the team race at 6-under with UNC Wilmington a stroke behind in second.
Gustavo Rangel and
Eli Spaulding both shot 2-over 74s for the Greyhounds and are tied for 38
th, while
Jackson Roman was 4-over on Friday and is tied for 50
th.
Jackson Geyer shot 7-over in his first collegiate round and is tied for 65
th, while
Matt Carpentier was 5-over playing as an individual and is tied for 57
th.
Teams will play 18 holes on both Saturday and Sunday to conclude the season-opening event.
