DURHAM, N.C. – The Loyola University Maryland golf team got its season under way this weekend with a fourth-place finish in the Rod Myers Invitational and John H. Ryan Memorial, taking fourth in the team race with three players finishing inside the top-20 individually.
The Greyhounds shot 2-under 862 as a team over the 54 holes on the 7,114-yard, par-72 Duke University Golf Club. Host Duke won the tournament, followed by UNC Wilmington (-11), Indiana (-6), Loyola and Lipscomb (-1) in the top five. Liberty (+4), Harvard (+5), Princeton (+20), Georgetown (+36) and North Carolina A&T (+46) rounded out the field.
Liam Moloney finished his first collegiate tournament with a tie for eighth-place, shooting 4-under over the course of the three days.
Eli Spaulding shot even par on Sunday to finish the tournament at 1-under in a tie for 11th.
Gustavo Rangel shot 35 on both sides of the course Sunday for a 2-under 70 to get to even par for the tournament and tie for 18th individually. A birdie on 17 helped
Jackson Roman finish at 1-under on Sunday and 3-over for the tournament to move up 12 spots in the final round and tie for 28th.
Jack Geyer shot 5-over combined on the last 36 holes and was 12-over in the tournament to tie for 59th.
Matt Carpentier played as an individual and was 70th at 22-over.
The Greyhounds will be back in competition Saturday and Sunday, September 20-21, in Annapolis, Maryland when they play in The Goat at the Naval Academy Golf Club.
