Gustavo Rangel birdied six of his first 10 holes during Monday's second round at the 14th-annual Loyola Intercollegiate, and the Loyola University Maryland senior moved up 12 spots on the individual leaderboard during the 18 holes to help the Greyhounds maintain a share of the team lead at the event.
Rangel finished his day at 5-under 67 to move to 6-under for the tournament at Palm Valley Golf Club; he is tied for 12th individual and a shot back of teammate
Eli Spaulding who shot 3-under 69 on Monday and is tied for ninth at 7-under.
The Greyhounds shot 12-under overall on Monday and are tied with Richmond for the team lead. The Spiders also shot matched Loyola's 8-under in Sunday's first round and 12-under on Monday and are tied at 20-under overall.
Jackson Roman was the Greyhounds' biggest mover of the second round, rising 19 spots to a tie for 45th with a 2-under 70. Roman had four birdies and an equal number of bogeys during his first 17 holes before an eagle on the 515-yard, par-5 second hole, his final of the day. Roman's round moved him to even par following 36 holes.
Liam Moloney also shot 2-under on Monday and is tied for 25th at 2-under.
Two other Loyola players are tied for 45th with Roman.
Diego Neira shot 3-over 75 on Monday, and
Lorenzo Sanz, who is playing as an individual, was 1-over.
Loyola and Richmond have two-shot leads over third-place Denver and are up five strokes on North Carolina State and Tennessee-Martin, which are tied for fourth at 15-under.
The tournament's final round is due to commence Tuesday with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m.
