Last Time Out

  • Army West Point held Loyola scoreless for more than six minutes in the opening 10 of the first half Wednesday night and used a 16-0 run to build a lead it would not give up in an 87-77 win at Reitz Arena.
  • Emmett Adair and Tyson Commander scored baskets in the first two minutes for the Greyhounds, but the Black Knights scored the next 16 and led 18-4 on a Kevin McCarthy layup at 11:25.
  • The Greyhounds rallied quickly with 11 of the next 15 points to close within five, 20-15, on two Troy Cicero Jr. free throws at 8:39. The next seven points, however, came from Army West Point to put a cap on the momentum.
  • The Black Knights led 48-31 in the first two minutes of the second half, but Loyola would again draw closer.
  • Braeden Speed scored on a layup and free throw at 10:58 to move the gap to nine, 58-49, and Cicero three at 8:55 got the Greyhounds within seven, 62-55.
  • Army West Point, however, shot 50 percent from the field after halftime to hold off Loyola.
  • Jacob Theodosiou led the Greyhounds with 15 points, while Speed had 13 and Jordan Stiemke 11. Sebastien Emenalo had a team-best eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Guards Seeing Red (Maroon Actually)

  • A pair of Loyola guards have experienced a good bit of success against Colgate over the last three games with three combined games of 20 or more.
  • Braeden Speed was the latest, logging his first collegiate double-double on January 14, 2026, in Baltimore, scoring 20 to go with 10 rebounds. Speed left the game with an injury in the first half only to return in the second and score all of his 20 points.
  • Jacob Theodosiou had two of the best long-distance shooting games of his career against the Raiders last season. In Hamilton, New York, on February 8, 2025, he made 6 of 12 from 3-point range and scored a to-date career-high 32 points. He followed that on February 23 with 22 points, making 6 of 9 from three.
  • Theodosiou also went down with an injury in this year's first game – he finished the game but missed the next five –but scored six. He has averaged 20.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in three games against the Raiders.
  • Speed scored eight and 11 in two games in 2025-26 versus the Raiders and has averaged 13 points in the three games.

Back To Speed

  • Braeden Speed leads the team in scoring at 15.4 points per game, a mark that is up more than four points since the start of December over Loyola's last 19 games. He has led the Greyhounds in scoring in nine of the last 16 games, including eight of 15 conference outings.
  • The sophomore guard from Arizona had a stretch of five-straight games with 11 points or more (Nov. 6-19) snapped when he finished with five at then-No. 12 Kentucky, a game that started a three-game stretch where he totaled just 20 (six in limited action versus Washington College and nine against Coppin State).
  • Since then, Speed has scored in double figures in 18 of 19 outings with seven 20-plus games and 10 with 15 or more mixed in. He dropped his first 30-point game of his career on January 28 with 30 in a win over American.
  • He had his first collegiate double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds against Colgate. The game against the Raiders was the third 20-plus point game of Speed's collegiate career, joining his November 15 game against Stonehill when he had 21 and the December 21 contest at George Mason. Speed logged his second double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds at Lafayette, falling three assist short of a triple-double, and he backed that up with 25 points, nine rebounds and seven assists versus Holy Cross.
  • During the last 19 outings, Speed has averaged a team-high 17.3 points per game to go with 4.8 rebounds and a team-best 3.6 assists. He has shot 45.6 percent from the field, making 39 percent (39 of 100) from 3-point range. Overall this year, he is also first on the team in total rebounds (130) and assists (98).
  • Speed scored 20 or more in four-straight recent games (at Lehigh, Bucknell, American, at Navy). He was the first Loyola player to do so since Deon Perry did in January-February 2024.

He was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week after that game and a 10-point, 7-rebound performance against Washington College.
  • Adair had the second 20-plus point game of the season on December 9 at VMI, making 10 of 18 from the field to finish with 21 points.
  • He nearly matched his career-high on January 31 at Navy, making 6 of 11 from 3-point range en route to scoring a team-best 28 points. He also grabbed seven offensive rebounds in the game.

  • He put up 26 points with nine boards a week later at Lafayette, and he followed that with 24 points against Holy Cross, earning Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week honors.
  • Adair missed the first five games of Loyola's season with an illness, but he's been a key contributor since making his debut November 19 at Duquesne. • The games, coupled with Wednesday night's against Army West Point, extended his streak of 11 or more points per game to five, dating back to a 19-point game against Lehigh on February 4.
  • Stiemke started Patriot League play averaging 4.3 points over the first eight conference games, but in the last seven, he has averaged 12.7.

Community Affair

  • Loyola is third in the Patriot League in rebounds per game at 35.4, but the Greyhounds have only one player ranked in the top 10 of league individual rebounding.
  • Three Greyhounds – Emmett Adair (5.2), Braeden Speed (4.6) and Jacob Theodosiou (4.2) – average 4.0 or more rebounds per game, and two others – Jordan Stiemke (3.1) and Sebastien Emenalo (3.3) – average more than three per game.

On The Offensive Glass

  • Loyola is second in the Patriot League in offensive rebounds per game, averaging 10.6 through 28 outings.

At The Next Level

Two members of the men's basketball incoming class of 2019, Santi Aldama (SAHN-tee ALL-dah-muh) and Cam Spencer are on the Memphis Grizzlies' roster, and four-time men's lacrosse All-American Pat Spencer is a member of the Golden State Warriors.
  • Aldama was a first-round draft pick in the 2021 NBA Draft after leading the Patriot League in scoring and rebounding in 2020-21, and Cam Spencer led the conference in scoring the following season. He has played in 278 NBA games through February 19 and is averaging 14.0 points and 6.7 rebounds in 43 outings this season after signing a four-year contract during the summer.
