BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Six members Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving team were named to the Academic All-Patriot League Teams on Thursday as a result of their work in the pool and the classroom.
Riley Fried and
Haley Robinson were honored for the women's team, while
Brennan Coyle,
Joe Hayburn,
Sam Hersick and
Hans van Lierop picked up recognition for the men.
Fried is now a two-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree after also earning the recognition last year. She finished 12th or better in three events at the recent Patriot League Championships and was the Greyhounds' women's team's No. 3 point scorer at the meet.
Robinson became the first Loyola woman to win the 50 freestyle at the Patriot League Championships and also became the third Greyhounds woman in program history to win a Patriot League title since Loyola joined the conference in 2013-14. The All-Patriot League First-Team honoree was also fourth finisher in the 100 freestyle and took ninth overall in the 100 butterfly.
Coyle was named to the All-Patriot League Team for the second year in a row after a Patriot League Championships at which he was fourth in the 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 100 freestyle, ninth in the 50 freestyle and was on the silver-medal winning 200 medley relay team.
Hayburn also repeats as an Academic All-Patriot League honoree, and he picked up his third All-Patriot League, and his first first-team, recognition. Hayburn led Loyola in points at the Patriot League Championships, earning three individual silver medals, a relay silver and three relay bronze medals.
Hersick is a first-time Academic All-Patriot League recipient who was the Greyhounds top finisher in the 3-meter diving event at the Patriot League Championships.
Van Lierop is a repeat honoree on the Academic All-Patriot League Team who swam on the silver-medal winning 200 medley relay team and scored individually in the 100 butterfly (15th) and the 50 freestyle (18th) at the Patriot League meet.
