SWARTHMORE, Pa. — Swarthmore College edged Loyola University Maryland, 4-3, in a tightly contested men's tennis match Saturday, overcoming a Loyola doubles point with four singles victories.
Loyola claimed the opening doubles point by winning two of the three matches. At No. 1 doubles,
Ryan Gill and
Nick Lawliss outlasted Aadhi Raja and Nicholas Choo, 7-6 (5).
The Greyhounds also picked up a win at No. 3, where
Louis Moldenhauer and
Petter Hagen defeated Fate MacAlasdair and Cameron Samek, 7-5. Swarthmore earned its lone doubles victory at No. 2 as Aamish Pal and Dylan Hayes Gilbert topped
Blake Edwards and
Harry Zeiders, 6-3.
In singles play, Swarthmore won four matches to clinch the team victory. Hayes Gilbert rallied past Lawliss at No. 1, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, and Pal earned a straight-sets win over Edwards at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 4, Samek outlasted Gill in a three-set battle, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (4), while Terry Wu secured the deciding point with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over
Alejandro Rotundo at No. 6.
Loyola earned singles victories at No. 2 and No. 5. Moldenhauer defeated Raja, 6-2, 7-6 (7), and Hagen posted a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over Choo.
