  • Mason Cook has scored three or more goals in seven of Loyola's eight games thus far in 2026. The seven hat tricks give him nine in his career, all of which have come in the last 12 games (dating back to 2025).
  • In the last five games, Loyola has won faceoffs at a 59.6 percent clip.
  • The Greyhounds lead the Patriot League in fewest turnovers per game (14.5) this season.

  • The Greyhounds are in their 17th season of competition at Ridley Athletic Complex, which opened in 2010. The Greyhounds are 77-37 (.675) all-time at the stadium.

Looking Back

  • Loyola reeled off three-straight goals in the first quarter to tie 13th-ranked Georgetown at 3-3, but the Hoyas scored with less than two seconds left in the period and then added five in a row to start the second to go on to a 14-7 win Tuesday night at Ridley.
  • The Hoyas took a 3-0 lead just over eight minutes into the game when Rory Connor scored with 6:52 on the first-quarter clock, but Loyola would tie the game within the next four-plus minutes.
  • Mason Cook put the Greyhounds on the board with a goal off a Matthew Minicus goal at 5:35, and then Brady Quinn made it 3-2 with an unassisted goal, dodging from behind the crease to score at 2:58.
  • Cook added his second of three in the game with a goal 21 seconds later after the Greyhounds won the faceoff with a Will Musgrove assist.
  • His second of the night tied the game at 3-3, and the game appeared headed to the second quarter knotted, but Connor scored in transition with less than two seconds left to push Georgetown ahead.
  • Jack Schubert scored for the Hoyas three minutes into the second, and then Jake Bickel added back-to-back goals to make it a 7-3 lead.

Series History

  • Loyola and Bucknell will play for the 17th time in series history when the teams take the field on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Greyhounds have won 13 of the 16 previous games in the series, including a 12-11 overtime decision last year in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, on the Bison's home field.
  • The last three games between the schools have been decided by a total of four goals with a 14-13 Loyola win in Lewisburg on March 18, 2023, and a 15-13 Greyhounds' victory at home in 2024..
  • The series first started in 1981 when the teams played three years in a row with Loyola winning all three. Following a 15-8 Greyhounds victory on April 2, 1983, the teams did not meet again until Loyola's first year in the Patriot League (2014).
  • Loyola won the first Patriot League meeting, but the Bison took a 10-9 overtime win in 2015 on their home field. Loyola then won the next two games before Bucknell won two in a row in 2017 and 2018, both by a goal. Since then, Loyola has won seven in a row in the series.
  • Last year, Bucknell took an 11-9 lead with 5:50 left in regulation on a Connor Davis goal, but Loyola got within one less than two minutes later after a Matthew Minicus extra-man tally. Brady Quinn then scored with an even three minutes on the clock, tying the game at 11-11.
  • In overtime, Max Watkinson made a save 15 seconds into overtime, and Brady West scored 49 seconds later on a Ryan McGorry assist to give the Greyhounds the victory.

About The Attack

  • Loyola is one of six teams in NCAA Division I to have three players ranked in the top 85 individually in points per game (Dartmouth, LIU, Notre Dame, Queens, Virginia): Mason Cook (T-24th, 4.25), Kenan Everhart (T-45th, 3.63), Matthew Minicus (T-82nd, 3.13).
  • That group has combined for 17 multi-goal games individually this season.
  • Matthew Minicus is one goal away from becoming the 15th player in school history to score 100 in a career.
  • Mason Cook has scored 46 goals in 21 career games. Kevin Lindley, the school's all-time record holder in goals scored (196) got to 50 in his 20th game; Gary Hanley, who scored 151 and is second all-time, hit 50 in his 24th game.
  • Loyola has two players ranked in the top-20 nationally in extra-man goals. Mason Cook is tied for eighth with four, while Will McCulloch has scored all three of his goals this season on man-up and is tied for 19th.

Cook-ing On Attack

  • Mason Cook missed the 2025 season's fall practice with an injury, but he got up to speed in his first season at Loyola. He saw an increased role on offense over the Greyhounds' last eight games, making his first collegiate start against Providence on March 8 and nailing down a spot in the opening 10 since.
  • Cook exploded for 10 points on five goals and five assists against Holy Cross and scored two more against Navy to bring his season totals to 17 goals, seven assists and 24 points. He is the only freshman in NCAA Division I to post 10 points in a game this year, and he is the first Loyola freshman to do so since Pat Spencer had five goals and five assists in the 2016 Patriot League Championship Game against Army West Point. In the last five games (since Bucknell) of the year, Cook had 12 goals and five assists, while shooting .363 (12 of 33).
  • Now a sophomore, Cook picked up where he left off with hat tricks in each of the Greyhounds' first six games of 2026. That string was broken when he had two goals and an assist against Lehigh on March 14, but he picked back up with three versus Georgetown three days later. He now has nine games with three or more goals over the last 12 he has played. Over the last 13 games, he's scored two or more 12 times.
  • Cook scored a career-high eight goals on February 28 at Colgate. He is the most-recent Loyola player to score eight or more since Kevin Lindley did so against the Raiders in March 2019.
  • This year, Cook has scored 29 goals to go with five assists in the eight contests. He leads the Patriot League, and is fifth in NCAA Division I, in goals per game (3.63) and is fourth in points per game (4.29) in the League.

Steady Presence

  • Matthew Minicus opened the 2025 season, his junior campaign at Loyola, with a four-point effort against Georgetown, and the multi-point games continued to trend. Through the first seven games of 2026, he has 29 career multi-goal outings and 19 multi-assist performances.
  • Last year, he led Loyola with 52 points on 25 goals and 27 assists, earning All-Patriot League Second Team recognition for the second year in a row. He registered his 100th career point with a first-quarter assist against Rutgers on February 21, 2025. After he was held without a point for just the third time in his career on March 29, 2025, at Lehigh, Minicus finished 2025 with 26 points (4.8 per game) on 17 goals (3.4) and nine assists (1.8) in the last five games of 2025.
  • He broke out for seven points with a pair of goals and five assists this year at Colgate; he then scored three times with an assist against Towson and had four goals versus Providence.
  • Minicus has played in 52 career games, starting all but one, for the Greyhounds and already has 169 points with 99 goals and 70 assists. His 169 career points are most amongst active Patriot League players and 11th with active Division I players.
  • He moved into 13th all-time at Loyola in points against Towson, and his 69 assists are 12th in school history. With five more goals, he'll pass Zach Herreweyers (2013-16) for 14th all-time.

Faceoffs In Five

  • Loyola has won faceoffs at a 59.6 percent clip over the has five games, a number that goes up to 63.3 in the last three.
  • Carson Hall has taken 92 draws since the five-game stretch started on February 28 at Colgate, winning 59, good for 64.1 percent. He has picked up 30 ground balls in those games. He went 14 of 17 on March 17 against Georgetown, totaling nine ground balls for the second time this year. Mason Graves has won 50 percent in the five games (21 of 42), including going 9 of 12 on March 14 against Lehigh.
  • Miles Halter is second on the team – behind Hall – in ground balls during the five games with 19. A backup attacker for Loyola, Halter has taken most short-stick wings on faceoffs in those five games.

Standing Up In Starting Role

  • The 2025 season was Max Watkinson's first as a full-time starter for the Greyhounds in goal; the Baltimore native started two games in 2024 before taking over the job in 2025.
  • He posted solid numbers in 14 games with 10 or more saves in 13 of the games. Watkinson made 189 saves in 14 contests (13.5 per game), with a 55.1 saves percentage; he ranked sixth nationally in saves per game.
  • This year, in the first eight games, Watkinson made 11 or more saves in seven, and he now has 21 games with 10 or more saves in 25 outings as a starter between the pipes. He is second in the Patriot League, and is 14th nationally, in saves per game (12.50).

Coming Together

  • Kenan Everhart missed all of his freshman season (2024) with an injury, and he then missed a chunk of time in 2025, finishing the year with nine goals and seven assists.
  • This season, he eclipsed both of those totals in just five games and through eight has 16 goals and 13 assists. He tied his to-date career-high with four goals at UMBC, and a week later went for a career-best four assists at Colgate. Three days later, he scored five times and assisted on four more in Loyola's win over Towson. He enters the Bucknell game seventh in the Patriot League with 3.63 points per game; he is fifth with 1.63 assists.

Toomey's Team

  • Charley Toomey is in his 21st year as the head coach at Loyola and his 30th as a member of the Greyhounds' coaching staff. Overall, he is in his 34th year on the Evergreen campus, including his four seasons as a student-athlete from 1986-90.
  • Toomey has a 191-116 career record. Early in the 2016 season, Toomey became the second coach in program history to reach and cross the 100-win plateau; he became the school's all-time leader in wins in 2024, passing Dave Cottle's 181.
  • In January 2019, Toomey was named to the coaching staff of the U.S. Men's National Team as an assistant coach. He was an assistant for the gold-medal-winning team at the 2023 World Championships in San Diego. Toomey will again be an assistant for Team USA in preparation for and competition at the 2027 Championships in Japan.
