Women's Track Runs Well At VCU

March 20, 2004

RICHMOND, VA - Loyola's women's track and field team ran well in its second meet in the history of the fledgling program as Head Coach Chris Bayless took his distance runners and throwers to the VCU Ram Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Greyhound junior Jackie Truncellito hightlighted the day for Loyola with her win in the 10,000-meter run as she clocked a time of 37:07.30. Freshman Andrea Rovegno followed in second place with a time of 37:42.47.

Another Loyola highlight came when Caitlin Dunne crushed her personal best in the 5,000-meter run by almost 90 seconds when she ran a time of 19:07.

Kelly Gilligan and Barbara Parassio, who finished 10th and 11th in the javelin throw, respectively, improved their throws by sizable margins from their performances last week at the Goucher Invitational Warm-Up Meet.

"Everyone performed better than last week," said Bayless. "We are improving every week which is all we can ask for, but everyone looked good today and performed with more confidence."
