Truncellito Wins Another 10,000 At Navy Invitational

March 28, 2004

ANNAPOLIS, MD - With the Greyhound women's track team running against its toughest competition to date, junior Jackie Truncellito won the 10,000-meter run for the second week in a row while a few other Greyhound individuals turned in solid performances at the Navy Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Truncellito busted out of the gates in the six mile-plus run and took the lead immediately, which she maintained throughout the jaunt en route to her time of 37:48 and the win.

Freshman Andrea Rovegno recorded the other win of the day for Loyola as she grabbed the gold medal in the 1,500-meter run with a very impressive time of 4:47.13, beating the rest of her competition by eight seconds. Rovegno also won her heat in the 800-meter run as she ran a time of 2:24.20.

Tricia Yudd ran a personal best by more than 49 seconds in the 5,000-meter run with her time of 20:01 for another standout running performance by a Greyhound.

In the javelin throw, Barbara Parassio threw a personal best by more than three feet as she tossed the 7'2" spear 102 feet to finish in fifth place.

"We ran very well," said Loyola Head Coach Chris Bayless. "Everyone looked very relaxed today and seemed to have fun with it. That is what I am looking for. I want my team to compete well - run, jump, and throw as best as they can - but have a good time doing it and they seem to be doing just that."
