Volleyball Swept By Saint Peter's

BALTIMORE, Md. - Junior middle hitters Sasha Pshenychka and Serra Soylu combined for 32 kills and a .452 hitting percentage to lead Saint Peter's College (12-11, 2-2) to its third straight win, a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference volleyball victory over the Greyhounds (6-17, 1-2) at Reitz Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The Peahens, who handed Loyola its fourth straight home loss, earned the victory with scores of 30-17, 30-20 and 30-17. The Greyhounds have not won at Reitz Arena since a three-game sweep over Morgan State on September 29.

Saint Peter's used a 10-0 run in the opening game to extend a slim 14-13 advantage into a 24-13 lead as Pshenychka had three of her six kills in the opening frame to lead the Peahens to a 13-point win. Saint Peter's took advantage of a -.081 hitting percentage by the Greyhounds while converting 17 kills with just six attack errors.

Soylu gave the Peahens a 30-20 victory in the second game by hitting .538 in the stanza with eight kills and just one attack error in 13 attempts. Pshenychka and senior Gulhan Cakcak each added five kills for Saint Peter's while three different players had three kills for Loyola.

Down by 8-6 in the third game, the Peahens used another 10-0 spurt to turn the two-point deficit into a commanding 16-8 lead which they did not relinquish. Soylu had four of her match-high 18 kills during the rally while Cakcak added a pair of kills. Another five-point run for Saint Peter's extended the advantage upped the lead to 21-12 and the Peahens secured the victory on a kill from freshman Rachel Cleland.

Pshenychka recorded 14 kills with just one attack error while Soylu added 18 kills and six digs. Senior setter Alma Qose recorded a double-double with 42 assists and a team-high 13 digs. As a team, Saint Peter's hit .339 for the match with just 13 attack errors.

Senior outside hitter Becky Corb led the Greyhounds in the loss with seven kills and five digs while freshman defensive specialist Danielle Moran had a match-high 14 digs. Freshman setter Marcellee Williams had 20 assists and nine digs.

Loyola concludes its three-match homestand on Wednesday evening when the Greyhounds host the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore at 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Peahens are idle until November 1 when they host Manhattan College at 7:00 p.m.
