CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Despite season-high performance from three different players, the Greyhound volleyball team (2-9) lost to North Texas (4-9) in four games at the 2005 SpringHill Suites Classic at Halton Arena on Friday afternoon.
The Mean Green, who won for the third time in the last four matches, earned the victory with scores of 30-24, 30-25, 23-30 and 30-22.
Senior Becky Corb registered a season-high 24 kills against just eight attack errors for a season-high .340 hitting percentage while senior libero Jamie Arndt had a match-high 28 digs, which also set a season high.
Freshman setter Marcellee Williams recorded a career-high 53 assists for Loyola while senior Krystal Biegaj had three assists, including the 3,000th assist of her career. She recorded the milestone assist on a kill by sophomore Christina Greenup in the first game of the match. Greenup ended the match with 13 kills.
Katy Prokof was one of four North Texas players to record double-digit kills, registering a team-high 13 kills in the victory. Erica Wendell and Brooke Engel each added 12 kills, while Ashley Bass tallied 54 assists in the win.
The Greyhounds hit .270 in the match, which is the second-highest team hitting percentage in a match this season. Loyola hit .296 in a win over Coppin State on September 6 at Reitz Arena. During the third game, the Greyhounds hit .432 to take the game by a 30-23 margin.
Loyola continues play in the SpringHill Suites Classic on Saturday with matches against Winthrop and Davidson to end the tournament. The Greyhounds are currently on a six-match road trip, which will include matches against LaSalle and Robert Morris.
