Jersery City, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland women's volleyball team defeated Saint Peter's, 3-1, (25-17, 25-9, 21-25, 25-18), today in Jersey City, N.J. The Greyhounds (8-13, 2-5 MAAC) will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Manhattan at 3 p.m.
Loyola had three Greyhounds with double digit kills. Senior Nina Camaioni had a double-double with 24 kills and 12 digs. She had a .388 hitting percentage for the match.
Camaioni is 34 kills away from breaking the career school record set by Becky Corb, who had 1,629 kills from 2002-2005.
Sophomore Aubrey Kirven had a double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore Katie Dircks added 12 kills and nine digs and freshman Nicole Sarby had 10 kills and seven digs. Senior Brittany Born contributed 16 digs.
Saint Peter's was led by Stephanie Phillips who had 15 kills and Corey Haynes added 23 assists.
In the first set, the score was tied at 13 before the Greyhounds took the lead and never looked back. Loyola took a nine point lead before Saint Peter's answered back. The Greyhounds finished the set 25-17 and Loyola had a .484 hitting percentage to the Peahens .294.
In the second set, it was all Greyhounds took an early 14-5 lead over Saint Peter's. The Peahens only answered with two more points before Loyola finished the set early 25-9. The Greyhounds had a .393 hitting percentage to Saint Peter's -.097.
In the third set, the set was tied at 10 before the Peahens went on a six point lead before the Greyhounds answered with a kill by Katie Dircks. The closest the Greyhounds came was at 20-21 with a kill by Nina Camaioni but Saint Peter's answered and closet the set 25-21. Loyola had a .178 hitting percentage to the Peahens .243.
In the fourth set, the Greyhounds took an early lead at 19-10 with a kills by Jac Bullock. The Greyhounds went on a four point run before Saint Peter's answered. The Peahens went on a seven point run at 11-24 before a serving error by Saint Peter's closed the set and the match 25-18. The Greyhounds had a .364 hitting percentage to the Peahens .075.
