Final Stats | Baltimore Metro Invitational

Baltimore, Md. - Freshman sprinter Whitney Gibbs won both short sprints and anchored the Greyhounds' 4x100 relay team to another victory as Loyola recorded a second-place finish Friday afternoon at the Baltimore Metro Invitational held at the Loyola/Hopkins Track & Field Complex.

The Greyhounds concluded the day with 185 points while co-host Johns Hopkins won the event with 309 points. Rutgers-Camden and McDaniel also sent full teams to the competition.

Gibbs won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.65 and added a win in the 200-meter dash, hitting the tape in 27.23. Later, she ran the anchor leg while teaming with sophomore Samantha Westley, freshman Lauryn Granara and sophomore Kristina Krupa to claim victory in the 4x100 relay, giving Gibbs three first places in three races.

Krupa just missed equaling the three top finishes by Gibbs. She added a first place in an individual event with the fastest time in the 400-meter dash (1:01.79) and then ran the third leg on a team that included freshman Marci Baileys, freshman Rosemary Yardley and sophomore Audrey McGonigle which placed second in the 4x400 relay.

Westley was victorious in the 100-meter hurdles (16.74) for an individual first-place finish and was third behind Gibbs in the 200-meter dash (29.24).

Baileys added a pair of high finishes in field events to go along with her second place as part of a team on the track. She won the triple jump with a school-record leap of 10.28 meters and placed second in the long jump with an effort of 4.58 meters.

The Greyhounds also received first-place results from freshman Kelsey Burke in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.84) and freshman Megan Trainer in the hammer throw (22.70m). Loyola's 4x800 relay team was also victorious. The only other runner-up result for the Greyhounds came via sophomore Lauren Chiaravalloti's second-place standing in the high jump (1.53m).

Loyola competes next one week from today with competition at the Widener Invitational in West Chester, Pa.
