WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Loyola University Maryland freshman Victoria Szczawinski set a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday night, highlighting the Greyhounds' performances on the first day of the Colonial Relays at the College of William & Mary.

Szczawinski finished sixth in the field of 18 with a time of 10:57.65, breaking the previous record by more than 40 seconds. Stephanie Gibney ran 11:37.89 to set the mark last season.

"Torre was the highlight of the day for us," Head Coach Amy Horst said. "I was impressed with how she was calm in her first steeplechase. She had a fall and still recovered really nicely in the middle of her race."

In other action at the relays, Courtney Willeford took 22nd in the javelin with a throw of 90'1", and Jacqueline D'Antonio placed 39th out of 96 competitors in the 800 meters (2:18.92).

Emily Doucette led a Loyola contingent of competitors in the 1,500 meters, placing 54th out of 105 runners in 4:49.73.

The Greyhounds resume competition on Saturday at the meet.
