Final Stats

TOWSON, Md. - The Loyola University Maryland dropped a three-set match to local-rival Towson, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18, Tuesday night at the Towson Center.

Sophomore Tina Catanach led the Greyhounds (2-2 overall) with a match-high 11 kills, while senior Janet Pressler and sophomore Kara Schiffer each had six digs. Junior Faye Lukas knocked down nine kills and collected four blocks, as classmate Jac Bullock also recorded four blocks. In pacing the Greyhounds, sophomore Lauren Andersen dished out 21 assists.

For Towson (5-0), Alysha McCreary had a team-high eight kills and four blocks, while Paige Sekerak picked up a game-high 14 digs. Aubrey Kirven dished out 32 assists.

Due to a 4-0 Tiger run, the Greyhounds fell behind 15-11 in the first set, but Lukas answered for Loyola, landing three kills in the next five points to spark a 5-3 run that made the score 18-16. Towson's Dayane Van Ass would knock down back-to-back kills though, following a kill from Kirven, to extend the Tigers' lead back to four at 22-17. The two squads ended up trading points for the remainder of the game, leading to a 25-20 victory for Towson.

The Tigers then grabbed a 2-0 lead in the match with another 25-20 win in the second stanza. Despite trailing 18-14, the Greyhounds worked for three-straight points to pull within one, 20-19, but the Tigers answered with a 5-1 run to close out the frame.

Towson carried its momentum into the third set and used a late 7-0 run to pull ahead 21-12. Catanach halted the streak with a kill, but back-to-back kills from the Tigers put them up 10, at 23-13. Loyola didn't back down though, rallying for five-straight points to make the score 23-18, but that wouldn't be enough to quiet Towson, as the Tigers found the two points they needed for a 25-18 set win.

Loyola will return to action this weekend when it heads to Pittsburgh for the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational. On Friday, the Greyhounds will face Norfolk State (11 a.m.) and Providence (4 p.m.), before taking on Duquesne (11 a.m.) and Bucknell (3 p.m.) on Saturday.
