BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland volleyball won the first set and led 13-7 in the second, but Lafayette College rallied to score 21 of the next 34 points in that frame to tie the match at a game apiece before going on to a 23-25, 28-26, 25-14, 27-25, Patriot League victory Sunday afternoon.

The Greyhounds (2-13 overall, 0-2 Patriot League) went up five, 12-7, on a Corri Waters-Lauren Youngblood block of Elizabeth Walsh and then pushed ahead six on a bad set by the Leopards (4-11, 1-3).

Lafayette, however, sided out on a Tori Smith kill and got back within three, 15-12, moments later on one of Jet Manzi's team-high 12 kills.

Loyola stayed in front with two points on Manzi attack errors, stretching its advantage back out to five, 18-13, but Kelly Flynn triggered a Leopards run with a solo block from a Loyola back-row attack. She teamed with Smith for a block on the next point to make it 18-15 in the Greyhounds' favor.

Manzi continued to serve and had two aces during a six-point run that saw Lafayette take a 19-18 lead.

Loyola regained the lead at 23-22 on a Molly Cichosz kill, and Youngblood served an ace to give the Greyhounds set-point and a two-point lead, but Lafayette scored two in a row to tie the score at 24-24 on a Lauren Pisauro ace.

A Leopards ball-handling error gave the Greyhounds another set-point, 26-25, but Kelly Flynn and Manzi had back-to-back kills for Lafayette to give the Leopards their first set-point opportunity.

Mindy Maloney tied it at 26-26 with a Loyola kill, but Smith sided out for Lafayette with a kill and Manzi served an ace to send the team into a 10-minute intermission tied a one set each.

Lafayette dominated the third set as Loyola had just 21 swings and registered seven kills and as many errors. The Leopards, meanwhile, sided out on all but three of their 14 opportunities in the set, and took a 2-1 lead in the match.

Lafayette looked to put the fourth set away early, going up 23-18 on a Smith kill, but Loyola sided out on a Leopards ball-handling error, and Kelly McShea served five points in a row - including an ace and kills by Jane Lukas and Youngblood - to five Loyola a set-point opportunity, 24-23.

Walsh had a kill to end a rally and send the teams to extra points, and the Leopards closed the match out with a 27-25 fourth set win.

Cichosz and Manzi tied for match-high honors with 12 kills each.

The Greyhounds return to action next weekend with a pair of Patriot League road matches. They first play in Worcester, Mass., at College of the Holy Cross on Friday night at 7 p.m. before facing the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., the following day at 7 p.m.
