Track Puts Together Strong Showing Before Patriot League Championship

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Loyola University Maryland women's track team recorded seven top-10 finishes and eight personal records as the Greyhounds competed at the Lehigh Games, the final meet before the Patriot League Championship next weekend in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.

"The team was very competitive today," head coach Amy Horst said. "I'm excited for the Patriot League Championship, as the team continues to show consistent progress. The women are executing every challenge and I look forward to their performances next weekend."

Junior Sarah Askine recorded Loyola's top finish of the afternoon, taking fourth in the 1,500m with a time of 4:43.47. Freshman Courtney Wallace also ran a personal-best in the same event, shaving nearly 10 seconds off her previous record with a time of 5:01.75.

Sprinters Claire Scavone and Molly Smith put together a pair of top-10 finishes in the 100 and 200m dash, respectively. Scavone finished seventh in the 100m in 13.39, while Smith took ninth with a time of 26.68. Sophomore Daniella Joyce set a PR in the 200m with a time of 28.12, while senior Brianna Nelson came across the 400m-finish line in 1:01.22 for a new personal record.

Freshmen Devon Terwilliger and Christa Sidoti put together a pair of strong performances in the 400m hurdles, as both Greyhounds set new PRs and finished among the top 10. Terwilliger took fourth in 1:04.76, while Sidoti finished 10th in 1:08.03. Classmate and fellow hurdler Anne Lauder ran a personal-best time of 17.03 in the 100m hurdles.

Freshman MaryEllen Woods recorded her third top-10 finish of the season, taking 10th in the 800m with a personal-best time of 2:18.23. Rookie Gabrielle Silvestri also ran the 800m and set a PR after crossing the finish line in 2:32.16.

The Greyhounds took third in the 4x100m relay, recording a season-best time of 50.01.

The men competed in their final meet of the season, setting a number of personal records in the 800 and 1,500m races. Sophomore Alex Saffadi recorded the men's top finish, taking eighth in the 800m with a personal-best time of 1:59.13. Junior Tom Porth highlighted the 1,500m by setting a PR and finishing among the top 20 (20th, 4:08.99).

The women's team returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Patriot League Championship hosted by Bucknell University.
