SUGAR GROVE, Ill. Senior Ethan Wall sits fifth after turning in a pair of under-par rounds at Sunday's opening day of the Northern Intercollegiate, leading the Loyola University Maryland golf team with a 7-under 137.
Wall fired a 6-under 66 through the first round at Rich Harvest Farms - the final site of the 2017 NCAA Championships - and followed it up with a 1-under 71.
Senior Bennett Wisner also turned in an under par performance in his season debut, carding a 2-under 70 through the first round and a 3-over 75 through the second to sit tied for 23 at 1-over 145 entering tomorrow's final round.
Senior Brendan Peel is two strokes back of Wisner, and tied for 33rd overall with a 3-over 147 (74-73), while junior Erick Alonso is tied for 51st after turning in a pair of 75s and freshman Brandon Berry is tied for 62nd at 10-over 154 (79-75).
As a team, the Greyhounds are tied with Michigan for sixth, combining for a two-round score of 3-over 579. Marquette leads the team race with a 30-under 546, followed by Virginia (568, -8), Purdue (575, -1) and Northern Illinois (576, E), respectively.
Wall is one of 18 individuals under par entering tomorrow's final round. Marquette's Oliver Farrell tops the leaderboard with a 13-under 131, while he's followed by Virginia's Ashton Poole at 9-under 135 and a pair of his teammates - Austin Kendziorski and Hunter Eichhorn - at 8-under 136.
Loyola will return to the course for the final round Monday morning. The Greyhounds will tee off beginning at 8:30 a.m. and will play with Wisconsin and Illinois State.
